Trouble With An Abusive Relationships

Abusive relationships are very unhealthy for you. You can have trouble sleeping or have headaches or stomach aches. Abusive relationships are characterized by extreme jealousy, emotional withholding, lack of intimacy, raging, sexual coercion, infidelity, verbal abuse, threats, lies, broken promises, physical violence, power plays, and control games. These symptoms can worsen over time unless it is recognized and addressed by both parties involved. Abusive relationships have the potential of manifesting in different forms. Each one of them can prove to be more traumatic than the other.

Abusive relationships can occur in heterosexual relationships or same-sex relationships. Abusive relationships often involve a pattern of repeated verbal, sexual, emotional, and physical abuse that escalates the longer the relationship continues. Some of the indicators of an abusive relationship are verbal abuse; isolation from friends and loved ones; fear of the partner’s temper; fear of abandonment by the partner; accepting the partner’s controlling behavior; fear of intimidation; the distortion of the partner’s hurtful behavior; assuming responsibility for the partner’s abusive behavior; feeling trapped; and fear of leaving the abusive partner.
